There is so much good work being done in Scotland - whilst others with thier Big Ideas Society just think about it ! Hot off the press from The Pool at Development Trust Assoc Scotland is ; "A landmark report commissioned by Community Energy Scotland and the Scottish Community Foundation shows just how successful community groups can be when they lead local development. It suggests that there could be a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity for community groups to secure funds through renewable energy developments – funds that could be used to replicate the successes of pioneering community development groups from across the UK. Investing for Community Benefit details 10 case studies of community groups which have successfully pioneered and driven local development. It shows that with clear vision, strong partnerships and a real sense of community need, community groups can achieve radical improvements in their community’s prospects." http://localpeopleleading.co.uk http://www.dtascot.org.uk

What a trumptie ! Thanks to Ellon Times for ol' comb over shot and Tom Roebuck for endangered species shot !
Big it up for the Ellon Times for putting this shot of Ol Comb Over up to accompany the story of his forced crawl down at Menie. Many thanks to James Mackenzie (@twodoctors) for this one. http://www.ellontimes.co.uk/news/local‐headlines/no_compulsory_purchase_1_1180943 Dutch photographer Gerco de Ruijter recently got in touch with an extraordinary series of aerial photographs called Baumschule—some of which, he explains, were taken using a camera mounted on a fishing rod. The series features "32 photographs of tree nurseries and grid forests in the Netherlands." Picked this one off a good blog site http://bit.ly/fqsGyl They are still boring ..... This is good for youse teechurs out there ! http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/history/handsonhistory/ancients_circle.pdf
Tough times indeed for Forestry Commission, community owners, charitable organisations with all this For Sale malarky. Dig in England, it shouldn't be happening, but if it isgoing to then here's a possible model for all you woodland owner wanabees out there. Here's a presentation that we did to expalin what arts, culture and heritage meant to most of us in coomunity woodlands and social forestry. Have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN3upZnvkGM Community woodlands are extremely diverse, embracing all woodland types from ancient semi-natural woods to extensive conifer plantations, and ranging from less than a hectare to over a thousand hectares in size. Likewise, the communities involved range from crofting townships in the far north and west to small towns and inner-city communities in the central belt. Some of the larger groups now employ staff to manage and develop their woods, while others are managed entirely by volunteers. http://www.communitywoods.org Nobody said it was going to be easy !! My granny also used to say that my handwriting was like a hen scratching in the glaur. Here's a good wee app for the kids. Drawing furry and funny handwriting and stuff. Anyway just clearing all the decks today with things to share. http://www.zefrank.com/scribbler/scribblertoo/
Kind sums up a lot of the shit that's going on at the moment with forest sales, big society, Egypt, ... better out .... than in as my Granny would say ! Cartoon by Stuart Carlson, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, from four years ago I've always wondered why we can't all just share broadband , wireless, wi fi etc. Helen Rubenstiens article in New York Times is a good read. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/14/opinion/14rubinstein.html?_r=2&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=tha212 This is your new blog post. I suppose it's good to know that there are still tribes out there that "we" haven't made contact with but then we just have - by flying around over the top of them. Survival International has been doing a lot of work with hard to reach groups and Human Planet film on telly last night showed some footage. I found this compulsive and repulsive at the same time. http://www.uncontactedtribes.org/brazilfootage Anyway make your own mind up. I always remember an early book by some explorer in the 60's that notes a tribe "worshipping" a sliver bird and smoke tail that passed high over their village, same time, same direction. Pan Am filght # !
